In 2010, PIANC will celebrate 125 years of existence. PIANC
will organise special activities on four continents to commemorate this
event. One of the proposed activities is writing of a book on the history of the
Association. A special task force has been assigned to carry out this job.
The principal aim of this book is to give a broad outline of the development
of PIANC as an international, non-governmental Association involved with
navigation, ports and waterways, seen in the context of contemporary
technical developments. The objective of the book also is to record and to
disseminate the knowledge about PIANC’s long and rich history and, at the
same time, promote PIANC as one of the world’s leading technical
Associations. The book will be in full-color, richly illustrated and in
separate editions in the English and French language.
At the occasion of its 100th birthday in 1985, PIANC published the book
‘Centenary of the Permanent International Association of Navigation
Congresses, 1885-1985’. Apart from the fact that PIANC added another 25 years
to its history, the book is too bulky and too technical to be attractive for
readers outside the PIANC-membership.
It is the intention to send the book to all PIANC-members for free. Corporate
members are invited to sponsor. Sponsors will be recorded and honoured in an
appropiate way. Please contact the chairman of the task force Dr. J.U.
Brolsma at pianc@rws.nl.
