2011 PIANC Marina Excellence Design Jack Nichol Award (MEDA) Recipient: Mandurah Ocean Marina

The Recreational Navigation Commission is excited to announce that the Mandurah Ocean Marina has won the 2011 PIANC Marina Excellence Design Jack Nichol Award (MEDA). The Selection Committee determined the Mandurah Ocean Marina best represents the intent of the award evaluation criteria – functionality, aesthetics and environment. The opening of Mandurah Ocean Marina in 2001 fulfilled a 30-year community vision to convert its abandoned shoreline into a dynamic waterfront destination. The core objective of the initiative was community accessibility (90 % of the marina is accessible to the public) with an underlying objective as an economic catalyst for the community. The result is a facility that is safe and easy for boaters to use, attractive and appealing to boaters, and utilises materials and construction methods that are environmentally friendly and minimise impacts on the environment.  Congratulations to the Mandurah Ocean Marina and its community for successfully fulfilling a long-awaited vision.
